Nissan NP200 replacement for South Africa – Pricing and specifications

The new Nissan Magnite Move will soon go on sale in South Africa as the most affordable Nissan on the market at a starting price of R224,900.

However, the Move isn’t your typical family-centric crossover, instead, it’s pitched to commercial clients as an alternative to the now-discontinued NP200 bakkie.

The NP200 ceased production in early 2024 and the remaining stock will soon run dry. As the tiny workhorse is Nissan’s best-selling model in the country, it had no choice but to find a replacement for it.

This led to the development of the Magnite Move, a stripped-down version of the standard Magnite with more cargo space and fewer seats, while the automaker works on finding a true successor to the NP200.

The new Magnite Move “will help the company fill the gap left by its extremely popular Nissan NP200 before a replacement for this pick-up arrives in the next two years,” Nissan told TopAuto.

What you get

The new Magnite Move is powered by a 1.0-litre, naturally aspirated petrol motor churning out 53kW and 96Nm.

The unit is combined with a five-speed manual transmission sending power to the front wheels, resulting in an average fuel usage of 5.9l/100km.

Its main selling point, the Move is shipped with no rear seats to allow for a sizeable 690-litre storage area at the back which is more than double the 336 litres of the standard models.

Maximum payload weight is pegged at 250kg, and the 1,300mm cargo hold is protected from prying fingers with rear window tint and mesh window grilles. More durable rubber flooring is included, too.

Standard equipment on the new Magnite Move includes 16-inch steel wheels, silver roof rails, a multifunction steering wheel, a multi-info driver’s display with digital instruments, automatic airconditioning, remote central locking, and electric windows.

Two airbags, ABS, stability control, and rear parking sensors then take care of occupant safety.

It’s worth mentioning that the commercial vehicle does not come with the 8-inch infotainment screen of its siblings, though it does get six pre-wired speakers for those interested in installing their own media hub.

According to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the new Magnite Move is covered by a 6-year/150,000km warranty.
