Land Rover Defender updated for South Africa – Everything new

The Land Rover Defender range has undergone a mild update for the South African market for 2025.

It gets a new diesel powerplant and interior trim package available across the line-up, as well as an exclusive option for the top-spec 130 models.

Pricing for the premium adventure SUV now starts at R1,639,600, with 28 variations available across three body styles.

Everything new

The new D350 diesel engine replaces the previously employed D300, offering more power and torque, improved levels of refinement, as well as better fuel economy.

The twin-turbo, six-cylinder, 3.0-litre block generates a hefty 257kW and 700Nm, reflecting a jump of 36kW and 50Nm, respectively, with drive relayed to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Average consumption ranges from 8.3-8.7l/100km, depending on whether you go for the 90, 110, or 130 body style. Regardless of which one you choose, however, it will be able to do over 1,000km on a single refill.

The substantial twisting power also enables the hefty off-roaders to sprint from 0-100km/h in anywhere from 6.2-6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 191km/h.

Another new addition to the Defender range is the Signature Interior Pack, which is available across all body designs; standard on Defender X and V8 grades and optional for Dynamic HSE.

The Signature Interior Pack combines a comprehensive suite of upgrades to Defender’s interior in terms of seating and trim finishes for an even more distinctive environment.

In the front row, it provides 14-way electrically controlled seats with heating, cooling, and memory functions, with supportive new winged headrests.

In the second row, climate seats are fitted with winged headrests on Defender 110 and 130 models. For those in the third row, heated seats ensure cold-weather comfort across the entire vehicle.

The Signature Interior Pack additionally provides material upgrades for heightened tactility throughout Defender’s cabin, including Windsor Leather and Kvadrat seats available in Ebony or Caraway/Ebony, as well as Ultrafabrics available in the Light Cloud/Lunar colourway.

For the eight-seater 130, exclusively, buyers can now also get the optional Captain Chairs pack.

Ticking this box adds luxurious individual chairs for second-row occupants for added comfort and spaciousness, separated by an aisle that affords easy access to the third row.

The Captain Chairs boast heating and cooling technology, too.
