VW has announced the pricing and model lineup for the new Golf TSI in South Africa.
The current-generation Golf has thus far been limited to its hot hatch GTI and R forms, but the carmaker is finally bringing in a more affordable TSI option this year.
The Golf TSI will debut in the first quarter of 2025 with four derivatives that start from R580,900, lowering the cost of entry by a staggering R272,500.
Engine
The new Golf models are powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol (TSI) engine, in contrast to the 2.0-litre turbo plant found on the GTI and R.
This drivetrain produces a total of 110kW and 250Nm, which is sent down to the front wheels via the eight-speed “Tiptronic” automatic transmission.
As a result, the hatchback achieves an average fuel consumption of 5.2l/100km.
Features
The non-performance Golf will be offered in four specifications – Life, Life +, R-line, and R-line +.
The base Life units are fitted with Eco LED headlights, 16-inch Norfolk alloy wheels, a multifunction steering wheel, a six-speaker stereo, a 10-inch digital cockpit, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, air conditioning, and 10-colour ambient lighting.
Upgrading to the Life + will then add a customizable driver profile with modes for Normal, Comfort, Sport, Eco, and Individual, as well as a rearview camera, 30-colour ambient lighting, and Art-velour Sports seats.
Next up is the R-Line, which throws in a heated steering wheel with paddle shifters, sports suspension, three-zone climate control with rear vents and an allergen filter, keyless entry, R-line branded seats, park distance control, 17-inch Coventry alloy wheels, and R-line bumpers for the body.
Finally, there’s the R-line +, which rounds out the spec sheet with IQ Matrix LED headlights, an illuminated VW logo on the grille, 18-inch Leeds alloy rims, a power-adjustable driver seat, heated and ventilated front seats, Vienna leather upholstery with R-line logos, and stainless steel pedals.
