VW has officially launched three new models for the Tiguan in South Africa.
The next-gen SUV made its debut in September last year, however, the initial roster only included the base 1.4-litre TSI variants.
Now, the automaker has re-introduced the 2.0-litre TDI and TSI powerplants, adding two more powertrain options to the Tiguan’s toolkit across three derivatives.
Engines
The new TDI drivetrain consists of a 2.0-litre, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 110kW and 340Nm.
It is exclusively sold with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox, leading to an average fuel consumption of 6.6l/100km.
For comparison, the 1.4-litre TSI generates 110kW and 250Nm and consumes 7.6l/100km, meaning the diesel is the best option if you want to save on fuel.
The other new powerplant is the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol mill, which is positioned as the flagship of the range and is also sold with the 4Motion system.
The 2.0-litre TSI puts out a total of 140kW and 350Nm, making it the most powerful unit in the group, though this naturally comes at the cost of a higher 8.3l/100km fuel stat.

Features
The new TDI is sold in both the mid-range Life and top-spec R-Line trim levels, while the new TSI is exclusively found in R-Line form.
The Tiguan Life units are equipped with 17-inch “Bari” alloy wheels, Eco-LED headlights, black roof rails, keyless start, a leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, height-adjustable front seats, fabric upholstery, 10-colour ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Anyone who grabs the R-Line, meanwhile, can expect 19-inch “Coventry” alloys, silver roof rails, chrome trim, 30-colour ambient lighting, a heated sport steering wheel, Varenna leather upholstery with R logos, and electronically adjustable front seats with massage, heating, and ventilation functions.
Furthermore, buyers can select from a variety of extras such as a panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera system.
