Best-selling cars in South Africa

The Toyota Hilux was back on top as the best-selling car in South Africa in February 2025 after briefly being toppled by the Suzuki Swift in January, which now sits in second.

The Hilux moved a grand total of 2,683 units, securing a healthy lead over the 2,351 achieved by the Swift.

In third was the Swift’s biggest rival, the VW Polo Vivo, which gained 2,187 customers, narrowly inching ahead of the Ford Ranger in fourth with is 2,168 registrations.

The Isuzu D-Max landed in fifth with a respectable 1,924 sales, after which came the Corolla Cross with 1,435 and the Hyundai Grand i10 with 1,381.

The eighth spot on the ranks was occupied by the Toyota Starlet with 1,279 transactions, and ninth by the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro with 1,147.

The final model to crack the top 10 was the Suzuki Fronx, driving away with a healthy 1,123 showroom success stories.

The Nissan Magnite sat in 11th place owing to its 1,055 sales, while the Fronx’s architectural twin, the Toyota Starlet Cross, landed in 12th and was the last vehicle to surpass 1,000 sales by a mere 3 units.

The 13th opening on the list was taken by the Haval Jolion which garnered 982 buyers, 14th was awarded to the Kia Sonet with its 877 purchases, and 15th went to the Toyota Urban Cruiser for its 875 customers.

The final five were the VW Polo, Mahindra Pik Up, Renault Kwid, Mahindra XUV 3X0, and Toyota Hiace, which racked up 832, 763, 750, 661, and 634 sales, respectively.

In total, the top 20 best-selling models tallied 25,476 purchases, or around 53% of the 47,978 new cars sold in South Africa last month.
