New Audi A3 in South Africa – Pricing revealed

Pricing for the facelifted Audi A3 has been uncovered ahead of its imminent debut in South Africa.

The popular badge was initially set to launch in late 2024, though the carmaker has since pushed its release date back to the first quarter of 2025.

According to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the new A3 will be available in four specifications at launch with prices starting at R808,200.

Features

The A3 will once again be offered in both Sportback and Sedan body styles, both of which have received a visual overhaul.

The latter includes a wider hexagonal grille, new side air intakes, a restyled front spoiler, and a reworked rear bumper with an aggressive diffuser.

The headlights are slimmer and are now comprised of 24 individual pixels arranged in three rows, which can be customized into one of four daytime running light configurations.

Similar attention has been given to the interior, as the aircon vents have been reshaped and now boast a chrome finish.

The centre console has been redesigned, too, with a new gearstick, improved cupholders, and an integrated armrest.

As for the dashboard, you’ll find the latest Audi “Virtual Cockpit” digital driver display, along with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Regarding the equipment sheet, the A3 is ditching the Base and Advanced trim levels, meaning the S Line will function as the new entry point going forward.

The S Line is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless start, a flat-bottom leather multifunction Sports steering wheel, Sports seats, Dinamica microfibre upholstery, ambient lighting, a panoramic glass sunroof, a wireless phone charger, a Sonos 3D premium sound system, and two additional USB-C charging ports for the back row.

There’s also a number of assistance items such as cruise control, lane-departure warning, emergency braking assist, and front and rear parking sensors.

The other trim level making a return is the Black Edition which adds a variety of black cosmetic touch-ups to the alloy rims, mirror caps, and the Four Rings logo, and upgrades the seat covers to full leatherette.

Beyond this, customers will be able to further customize their purchase with extras such as a rearview or surround-view camera, Matrix LED headlights, heated seats, and adaptive cruise control.

Engine

At launch, the A3 will only be offered in its base 35TFSI form, with more engines expected to be introduced at a later date.

The 35 takes the form of a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol motor that produces a total of 110kW and 250Nm.

This is enough to let the Audi sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 8.2 seconds and achieve a top speed of 219km/h.

It also comes with a seven-speed automatic gearbox, front-wheel drive, and mild-hybrid technology – the combination of which leads to an average fuel consumption of 6.2l/100km.

While not yet confirmed, the more powerful 40TFSI is also anticipated to make a return in the future, which uses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol plant to produce 140kW and 320Nm.

The greater output means the German car can race to 100km/h in 7.4 seconds and reach a higher max speed of 249km/h.
