The Toyota Hilux once again hit it out of the park in South Africa, selling a grand total of 2,683 units in February 2025.
This makes it not only made it the best-selling bakkie in the country, but also the best-selling vehicle overall, placing ahead of other favourites like the Suzuki Swift and VW Polo Vivo.
February wasn’t just a good month for the Hilux, though, as the Ford Ranger also performed admirably with 2,168 purchases.
Things were even better for the Isuzu D-Max, which saw an impressive jump of over 500 units to reach a new total of 1,924, firmly securing its title as the nation’s third-most popular bakkie.
The Mahindra Pik Up performed well, too, with 763 units sold, which was then followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 with its 534 new customers.
Outside of the top five, the Nissan Navara is soldiering on with 412 people picking one up last month, putting it well ahead of the next entry, the VW Amarok, with its 290 sales.
Next is the GWM P-Series, which more than doubled its sales from January with 232 units – likely thanks to the recent introduction of the new range-topping P300 models.
One major surprise in February was the Foton Tunland G7, which has replaced the Mitsubishi Triton in ninth place with 201 customers.
The Triton, meanwhile, has fallen out of the top 10, and the GWM Steed is holding onto its position at the tail end of the pack with 125 units.
In total, the top 10 bakkies represented a combined 9,332 purchases, representing 19.4% of the 47,978 vehicles sold in South Africa in in February 2025.
