The new Kia Sorento is coming to South Africa, and you won’t have to wait much longer to get your hands on it.
The facelifted SUV is scheduled to launch by the end of the first quarter of 2025, meaning it should appear in showrooms before the month is out.
The Sorento is one of four new products lined up for our market this year, alongside the updated Carnival, and the new Carens and Tasman.
What to expect
The Sorento has seen a fairly substantial visual overhaul, being on the receiving end of a larger grille, new vertical LED headlights, and horizontal LED daytime running lights that run parallel to the hood.
Like many of Kia’s recent designs, the new SUV has more muscular proportions with noticeably larger front and rear bumpers than the previous models.
It also wears new front air intakes, and an updated set of 19-inch alloy wheel designs.

As far as the engine is concerned, the Korean family SUV retains its existing 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel mill with a total of 148kW and 440Nm on tap.
Drive is transmitted to either the front or all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Fuel usage is pegged at 6.1l/100km and it gets up to 100km/h in 10.7 seconds, regardless of whether you go for the two- or four-wheel-drive models.

Looking at the cabin, the dashboard has been reworked with a new touch-sensitive control bar, which replaces the traditional aircon controls.
Additionally, the old vertical air vents have been replaced with a sleeker, integrated set that runs horizontal to the dash, and there’s a new dual display for the infotainment and driver screens.
Other equipment on the Sorento includes keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, seven seats, electronically adjustable front seats with heating functions, cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera, depending on the trim level.
