The pricing for the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class 450d has finally been revealed.
According to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the new G450d will retail for R3,590,302 in South Africa.
This makes it the “entry-level” model in the G-Class (or ‘G-Wagen’) family, costing over R1 million less than the electric G580 EQ and the high-performance AMG G63.
Engine
The new G450d is the replacement for the previous G400d units, featuring a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 48V mild hybrid technology.
This gives the SUV an impressive power rating of 270kW and 750Nm, which is transmitted to a permanent all-wheel-drive system via a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
Thanks to the mild hybrid fittings, the Mercedes can also summon an additional 15kW for short periods to assist with acceleration.
As a result of all these systems, the G-Wagen can race from 0 to 100km/h in a respectable 5.8 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 210km/h.
Regarding its off-road capabilities, the SUV has a wheelbase measuring 2,890mm, a ground clearance of 250mm, and an approach, break-over, and departure angle of 30.9 degrees, 25.7 degrees, and 29.9 degrees, respectively.
It also comes with three driving modes for Comfort, Eco, and Sport, as well as terrain settings for Rock, Sand, and Trail.
These settings work in tandem with three separate locking differentials and a low-range transfer case for the gears.

Features
The G-Class is widely recognized as one of Mercedes’ most luxurious products, and the new 450d is no exception.
Available in AMG Line trim, the new model features an revised grille, automatic multi-beam LED headlights, and a set of 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, you’ll find a new leather multifunction steering wheel with touch controls, keyless entry and start, ambient lighting, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, electronically adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, a Burmester 3D stereo, and an updated MBUX dual driver and infotainment display.
The media screen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands, and an augmented reality navigation system that can display directions in real time.
On top of this, there are two 11.6-inch monitors in the back to entertain passengers.
The G-Wagen also benefits from a “Transparent Bonnet” function, which uses the 360-degree camera system to virtually map and display what’s happening under the hood while off-roading.
Other assistance items include front and rear parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking, a parking assistant, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, steering assist, blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
