Price cut and new engine for cheapest Range Rover in South Africa

Range Rover has added the new entry-level P160 powertrain to the Evoque family in South Africa, in the process lowering the barrier to entry to its cheapest model.
The Evoque now starts at R1,142,000, reflecting a drop of R190,100 from the previous base entry.
With the addition of two more affordable new variants, the Evoque family grows to six individual specifications.
What you get
The new P160 powertrain in the baby Range Rover consists of a 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol motor with mild-hybrid technologies combined with a nine-speed auto-box.
The setup’s 118kW and 260Nm output is channeled to the front axle only, allowing for a 0-100km/h sprint of 10.3 seconds, a top speed of 199km/h, and an average fuel usage of 6.8l/100km.
Drivers additionally have access to the All Terrain Progress Control system which can be thought of as off-road cruise control as it automatically maintains a set speed during off-road driving.
Hill-launch assist and hill-descent control is included as standard, too, as is low-traction launch assist.
You also get the Eco driving style assistant that modifies the vehicle’s settings to help reduce fuel consumption and encourage a more efficient driving style.

The new Evoque S foregoes some of the luxuries of its pricier siblings, however, it’s anything but sparsely equipped.
Potential owners can still expect a host of niceties in the cheapest Range Rover, encompassing keyless entry and push-button start, grained leather upholstery, two-zone climate control with rear vents, electric front seats, a multifunction steering wheel with an electrically adjustable column, a sliding panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, rain-sensing wipers, automatic LED lights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
It also comes with a fully digital driver’s display with a customisable layout, an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control, and a wireless device charger.
A suite of driver assistance features is furthermore included, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, emergency braking, and a driver condition monitor.
When upgrading to the Dynamic SE trim, in which the P160 driveline is now also available, you’ll additionally get automatic headlight levelling, 19-inch alloys, a rear-traffic monitor, rear-collision monitor, blind-spot assist, a 3D surround camera, and the Terrain Response 2 system.
At the push of a button, Terrain Response 2 reconfigures transmission, suspension, and traction settings for maximum drivability in almost all conditions, offering Rock Crawl, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, and Sand modes.
