New Volvo 7-seater goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Volvo has officially launched the new EX90 in South Africa, adding the long-awaited seven-seater counterpart to the popular EX30.
For now, the EX90 is offered in a single “Ultra Twin Performance” specification starting at R2,650,000, making it the flagship of the carmaker’s local catalogue.
This includes a 5-year/100,000km warranty, a 3-year/60,000km maintenance plan, an 8-year battery warranty, and five-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance plan.
Additionally, Volvo will provide customers with a Gridcars wall box charger installation, two years of free public charging, and 10GB of Vodacom data per month for the next three years.
Powertrain
As its name implies, the Twin Performance features a pair of electric motors mounted over each axle, giving the car an all-wheel-drive configuration.
The e-motors generate an impressive total of 380kW and 910Nm, allowing the large SUV to sprint to 100km/h like a hot hatchback with a time of 4.9 seconds.
Power is sourced from a sizeable 111kWh battery, which affords a driving range of 604km on a combined cycle, though this figure goes all the way up to 751km in urban settings.
The EX90 also supports charging speeds of up to 250kW when using a DC cable, which can top up the battery to 80% in just 30 minutes.
Additionally, the Volvo benefits from active air suspension, which greatly improves ride comfort.

Features
The EX90’s design will be familiar to anyone who has seen the EX30, albeit on a larger scale.
It features a closed-off body-coloured front end with “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights and daytime running lights, gloss black roof rails, high-gloss black lower bumpers, an electric tailgate, a panoramic glass roof, and 22-inch five-spoke aero wheels.
There are also eight colors to choose from – Crystal White, Denim Blue, Mulberry Red, Onyx Black, Platinum Grey, Sand Dune, Silver Dawn, and Vapour Grey.
Inside, the seats are wrapped in sustainable vinyl covers, and the first two rows have heating functions.
The front chairs are electronically adjustable and provide lumbar support and massage functions, and the driver can make use of a heated multifunction steering wheel.
Customers can further customize their purchase with a choice of either Birch Wood or Light Ash decor for the panels, and components like the aircon knobs and rotary dial have a “jewel-like” finish.
The dashboard features a 14.5-inch portrait infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is complemented by a 9-inch digital driver display above the steering wheel mount.
Other equipment includes a Bowers & Wilkens stereo with Dolby Atmos, a wireless charger, Bluetooth, USB ports, and automatic climate control.
Since it’s a Volvo, you can also expect a lengthy safety and assistance suite comprising adaptive cruise control with steering support (Pilot Assist), a heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, lane-keep assist, parking assist, run-off road mitigation, blind-spot detection with cross-traffic alert, collision avoidance and mitigation, intersection autobrake, and road sign recognition.
These functions are made possible thanks to the EX90’s state-of-the-art radar, LiDAR, and camera systems, which are operated by Nvidia Drive and Volvo’s own software.
