New Mercedes-Benz Vito launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mercedes-Benz has introduced the Vito Select to South Africa, becoming the second van to join the automaker’s passenger-car portfolio.

The Vito Select is available in two variants comprising the five-seater Mixto and the eight-seater Tourer, both with an impressive assortment of kit.

The van is now available from a starting price of R1,264,200 for the Mixto and R1,360,000 for the Tourer.

“The launch of the Select marks a significant milestone. Previously, only our illustrious V-Class was designed specifically with private customers in mind, whereas the rest of our lineup – the commercial Vito, Sprinter, and eSprinter – was created for business applications,” said Beate Mey, Marketing Manager for Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa.

“While the V-Class remains the ultimate luxury van, the Select focuses on versatility and play, providing a dynamic, engaging, yet still premium experience at a differentiated price point.”

Vito Select specs

The Vito Select family is driven by a 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel powerplant developing 140kW and 440Nm.

Drive is fed to the rear axle through a nine-speed automatic gearbox with “overdrive characteristics” that help reduce engine speed and fuel consumption in real-life scenarios.

Despite its large stature and gross mass of 3,200kg, the Vito Select is “ready to perform,” said Mercedes.

The base Vito Select Mixto offers space for up to five passengers including the driver, while reserving a generous 4.1 cubic metres of load volume in the back.

This makes the Mixto catered to sports enthusiasts, adventurers, and hobbyists who need plenty of room to store everything from bicycles to camping gear and luggage.

Meanwhile, the eight-seater Tourer boasts a flexible seating arrangement that allows the first row of seats to be turned to face the rear, creating a lounge-like experience in the back.

Additionally, the back row of seats can be removed should the owner require more cargo capacity.

Both variants of the Mercedes van are generously equipped with creature comforts, standard fitments comprising faux black leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 5.5-inch driver’s display, a wireless smartphone charging station, a heated multifunction steering wheel, and electric seat controls with a memory function.

They further sport electric sliding doors and an electric tailgate for added ease of use.

Safety and assistance systems are similarly abundant, with drivers having access to cruise control, active lane-keep assist, blind-spot assist, attention assist, and the Parking Package with a reverse camera that can perform autonomous parking manoeuvres.

Also included is a Theft Protection package as well as an Emergency Call system that can save crucial time in emergencies by automatically or manually initiating a call for help, speeding up response times after an accident.

Finishing things off, both Vito Select models ride on 17-inch, five-twin-spoke, light-alloy wheels as standard, though these can be swopped out for another set of 17-inch wheels in a different design at no additional cost, or 20-inch alloys if you go for the Tourer.
