Audi has unveiled their most luxurious performance car yet, the Audi S8.
The S8 is based on the brand’s flagship luxury sedan, but adds a more aggressive look and a beefy engine that gives it the “S” moniker.
The 5.18-metre-long sedan is treated to sporty 21-inch wheels; an aggressively redesigned front bumper, side sills, and exterior mirror housings; and two oval exhaust outlets at the rear.
Audi also now offers an upper inlay made of carbon vector which is exclusive to the S8.
Standard LED lights with daytime running are then fitted, with dynamic turn signals that lend it a sporty look.
Interior features
The sporty character continues on the inside of the S8, where electrically-adjustable leather sports seats are fitted as standard.
Each seat receives three-stage heating with standard ventilation features at the front, and optional massaging features are available, too.
Other highlights include the newest MMI touch display on the dash, a fully-digital instrument cluster, a heads-up-display, ambient lighting, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 3D sound.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is supported through this system, along with navigation, infotainment, and the MyAudi app.
The app allows the owner of the S8 to connect their phone to the car and control services like music streaming, remote locking, and inputting navigation destinations.
Standard safety and assistance systems are plenty as well, comprising intelligent park assist, a 360-degree camera, and an array of radar and ultrasound sensors that continuously monitor the surroundings of the car.
Performance
At the heart of the S8 lies a 4.0-litre, biturbo, V8 engine with a mild-hybrid system – paired with an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox that drives all four wheels.
The total output comes in at 420kW and 800Nm, with a 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds on the board.
The mild-hybrid system can save up to 0.8 litres per 100 kilometres, and cylinder-on-demand technology improves efficiency even more, said Audi.
The S8 comes standard with dynamic all-wheel steering, a sport differential, and predictive active suspension that provides exceptional handling characteristics.
Five drive modes will then let you tailor your driving experience to your personal liking, and ride height adjustment of up to 50mm makes it easier to get in and out of the large sedan.
Price
The new Audi S8 TFSI Quattro has a South African price of R2,484,000.
Each model is sold with a standard 5-year/100,000km Audi freeway plan.
