New mid-range VW Amarok launched in South Africa – Pricing

VW Commercial Vehicles has added a new derivative to the Amarok bakkie line-up in South Africa.

The model in question is the Amarok Life 2.0 TDI 125kW 4×2, which slots in as a mid-range option above the base Amarok units.

The new derivative has a starting price of R704,700, effectively splitting the difference between the base Amarok 4×2 double cab’s R664,400 and the 4Motion all-wheel-drive version’s R736,600.

Engine

The new Volkswagen is equipped with the familiar 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, single-turbo diesel TDI engine, which produces a total of 125kW and 405Nm.

Importantly, the new Life is the most affordable automatic option in the Amarok roster, as it features a six-speed auto transmission while the base units all have a manual gearbox.

The auto-shifter negotiates power to the rear wheels, resulting in a combined fuel consumption of 6.9l/100km.

The bakkie is also capable of towing up to 3,500kg, and the load bed can accommodate another 1,080kg.

Features

The newcomer is based on the mid-range Life specification, which means it comes with a fair amount of kit.

The Amarok is perched atop 17-inch “Combra” alloy wheels, and the rear tray is fitted with an electric tailgate lock, tie-down hooks, and integrated lights for viewing cargo in low-light conditions.

It also features LED headlights and daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, and a built-in towing hitch for a trailer.

The seats are decked out in durable fabric covers to protect against wear-and-tear, and the dashboard boasts an 8-inch portrait infotainment screen.

The touchscreen can seamlessly connect to your phone to access Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and several functions can be accessed via the leather multifunction steering wheel.

Furthermore, the VW features manual air conditioning, cruise control, a speed limiter, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, electronic stability control, and driver and front passenger airbags.
