New special-edition Mahindra crossover for South Africa – Details

Mahindra has officially unveiled a new special-edition model for the XUV 3X0 in South Africa.

The 3X0 is a small crossover that serves as the carmaker’s entry-level passenger car, which is currently available in eight specifications.

However, this roster will soon be joined by the new Thula Sindi Edition, a unique model made in collaboration with the local fashion designer of the same name.

The Thula Sindi Edition was initially unveiled as a concept car in 2024 where it received an overwhelming positive response, said the company.

Consequently, Mahindra made the bold decision to refine the Thula Sindi Edition and put it into production as a special-edition model that will be made commercially available in South Africa.

What to expect

The Thula Sindi Edition made an appearance at the Mahindra exhibit at the 2025 Nampo Agricultural Show in Bothaville, Free State this week.

According to the automaker, the new model’s main selling point is its exclusive styling elements, which include “custom exterior elements, reworked upholstery, and distinctive interior trim.”

By far the most striking element of the 3X0’s appearance is its new paint scheme, which goes for distinctly African look with a black-and-white zebra stripe pattern along the doors and roof.

The front of the car, however, is unchanged with a plain white coat.

The model on display at Nampo also appears to have the same 17-inch alloy wheels as the standard car.

The African makeover applies to the interior, too, as the headrests for the front seats are decked out with unique Thula Sindi cloth covers with white and orange lettering in a safari-themed font.

Attention has also been given to the headrests for the back seats, featuring bespoke covers with three colourful African patterns.

You can see a brief glimpse of the Thula Sindi Edition’s interior in this video shared to Mahindra’s Instagram account.

Mahindra hasn’t shared any further details regarding the crossover’s specs, but it’s natural to assume it will come with the same kit as its standard counterpart.

This means the engine will take the form of a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol block, which produces 82kW and 200Nm.

The regular 3X0 is offered with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, though the latter seems like a more likely choice for the Thula Sindi Edition.

Assuming the special-edition model does get the six-speed auto, it should have an average fuel consumption of 5.6l/100km.

The equipment sheet is slightly less obvious, as the new unit will presumably be placed on the higher end of the XUV’s trim selection.

As a point of reference, all 3X0 models come standard with all-electric windows, a start/stop system, a multifunction steering wheel, automatic aircon, USB ports, a 12V socket, four speakers, rear parking sensors, six airbags, and a 9-inch infotainment screen.

Higher-spec versions of the crossover will then add items such as a wireless charging pad, cruise control, a sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, keyless entry and start, a leather steering wheel, six speakers, and dual-zone climate control.

If the Thula Sindi is based on the range-topping AX7L, it may also receive a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, an electronic parking brake, a cooled glove box, a more powerful 65W USB charger, a Harman Kardon sound system, and front parking sensors.

All versions of the Mahindra XUV 3X0 are sold with a 5-year/150,000km warranty and either a 3-year/55,000km or 5-year/150,000km service plan.
