New Honda crossover launched in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Honda has launched the new HR-V in South Africa, with a twist.

The crossover was previously available in two trim levels called the Comfort and Executive, but these have now been combined into one – the Elegance.

The Elegance splits the difference between the initial models in terms of both amenities and price, though it’s still powered by the same driveline.

The HR-V Elegance is now available from a starting price of R539,900, slightly higher than the Comfort which went for R520,900 before it discontinuation.

It’s also noticeably cheaper than the Executive, which last traded at R622,900.

As before, the price of the Elegance still includes a 5-year/200,000km warranty, a 4-year/60,000km service plan, and 3-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance.

What you get

The new Honda HR-V is equipped with a rather generous level of kit.

Buyers can expect keyless entry and start, leather upholstery, a 4.2-inch multi-info driver’s display, climate control with rear vents, and a 15W wireless charger.

Perched on the dash is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, which is hooked up to a six-speaker stereo.

Also included are a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, automatic LED headlights with high-beam assist, LED daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, and dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels.

Standard fitment of the Honda Sensing suite is another highlight in the revised HR-V.

This package comprises adaptive cruise control, low-speed following, lane-keep assist, road departure mitigation, forward-collision warning, and a collision-mitigation braking system

Propelling the crossover is the same 1.5-litre petrol block as before, which is capable of developing 89kW and 145Nm.

Drive is fed exclusively to the front axle via a Continuously Variable Transmission, resulting in a combined fuel usage of 7.4l/100km.

The crossover also provides Normal and Econ drive modes, as well as a fuel-saving Stop/Start system.
