Ford Ranger recalled in South Africa – Details

Ford Motor Company of South Africa has notified the National Consumer Commission (NCC) of a recall affecting the Ranger bakkie.

The recall affects Ford Ranger models that were built between 29 October and 7 November 2024 at the company’s factory in Silverton, Pretoria, and concerns a faulty part that may increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Ford confirmed to TopAuto that approximately 25 vehicles are affected in Southern Africa, including South Africa and Botswana.

The light commercial vehicles are being recalled due to a front lower control arm (FLCA), which may have been fitted to the left-hand side of the bakkie instead of the right-hand side.

NCC Head of Complaints and Investigations Prudence Moilwa warned this could lead to loss of vehicle control and possible injury.

“In certain instances, the FLCA was reportedly fitted incorrectly on the left-hand side of the vehicle. This error poses a serious risk of separation of the joint, which may ultimately lead to a loss of control over the affected wheel,” said the NCC.

“The separation of the joint may result in loss of control of the affected wheel, with the corresponding effect on the vehicle handling increasing, which may increase the risk of a crash or injury.”

In response, the NCC and Ford Motor Company are advising customers who purchased the 2024 Ford Ranger to take immediate action.

Owners are encouraged to contact their nearest authorized dealership to schedule and appointment to correct the defect.

Ford stated that the service will be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the owner.

Other recalls in South Africa

The Ford Ranger is the latest in a growing list of vehicles that have been recalled in South Africa in recent months.

In May alone, the NCC notified motorists of recalls affecting cars from another seven brands, including Audi, Chrysler, Citroen, Jeep, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and VW.

The recall applies to the Audi e-tron GT, Chrysler 300C, Citroen C4, DS4 and DS5; Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes-Benz CLA and S-Class, Volvo XC90, and VW Polo Sedan.

In all of these cases, the reported defects present a serious risk to the user, comprising issues like faulty airbags, brake hoses, and faults with the high-voltage battery systems.
