New Hyundai 7-seater SUV in South Africa – Pricing revealed

The pricing for the next-gen Hyundai Santa Fe has been uncovered ahead of its debut in South Africa later this month.

According to our sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists, the new Santa Fe will retail for R1,249,900.

This makes it the second most expensive Hyundai you can buy in South Africa, placing ahead of the R1,204,500 Palisade and just below the R1,263,900 Staria.

The Santa Fe is sold with a 5-year/150,000km warranty with an additional 2-year/50,000km powertrain warranty, a 6-year/90,000km service plan, and an 8-year/160,000km hybrid battery warranty.

Powertrain

The new Santa Fe is currently limited to a single specification with a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain – a first for a Hyundai in South Africa.

The core of the setup is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is assisted by an electric motor powered by a small 1.49kWh battery.

On its own, the petrol engine can produce 132kW and 265Nm, but the electrical assistance means the SUV has a total of 172kW and 367Nm at its disposal.

This power is directed to all four wheels via an active “on-demand” all-wheel-drive system, which links to a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Thanks to its hybrid underpinnings, the Santa Fe achieves an average fuel consumption of 7.5l/100km, which is pretty good for a large SUV that weighs 2.6 tonnes.

Features

Hyundai has yet to disclose the official spec sheet for our market, though it’s a safe bet to say that the new Santa Fe will be one of the most well-equipped models in the carmaker’s catalogue.

The derivative earmarked for our market is the Elite, which should come with 20-inch alloy wheels and an electric tailgate.

The vehicle itself has also undergone a substantial visual makeover, adding new H-shaped automatic LED headlights and a sleek grille with a horizontal LED daytime running light bar.

Other nice-to-haves on the SUV will likely include a large multifunction steering wheel, a wireless phone charger, multi-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Bose stereo, and a dual curved display comprised of a a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with smartphone pairing.

The other major selling point of the Santa Fe is that it is a seven-seater, and both passenger rows can be folded to increase the boot space tremendously.

With all three rows up, the Hyundai can take 628 litres of luggage, but this goes up to 711 when the rear bench is folded.

If you lie both passenger rows flat, the Santa Fe can take an impressive 1,949 litres.
