8 new American cars coming to South Africa very soon

At least eight American cars are making their way to South Africa this year, marking the return of badges we haven’t seen for several years.

Rospa International, a local company that imports sought-after vehicles, recently announced that it signed a partnership agreement to bring a number of American cars to South Africa.

The Durban-based company confirmed that it has partnered with Autogroup International to source a variety of pickup trucks, SUVs, and muscle cars that can’t otherwise be purchased in our country.

Autogroup is a global firm that specializes in converting American cars to right-hand drive, allowing them to be imported to new markets.

The company reached out to TopAuto to provide further insights into the vehicles that are heading our way.

“For the first time, South Africans will be able to purchase mirror-image right-hand drive converted American vehicles backed by a local warranty, customer service, and full compliance with South African National Standards (SANS),” said Autogroup.

“This strategic partnership will see Durban-based Rospa International serve as an official distributor and service partner for Autogroup International across South Africa.”

What to expect

AutoGroup confirmed that at least eight different models are coming to South Africa, which are as follows:

  • Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck
  • Ford F-350 Super Duty pickup truck
  • Ford F-450 Super Duty pickup truck
  • GMC Sierra 2500 pickup truck
  • GMC Sierra 3500 pickup truck
  • GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate XL SUV
  • Hummer EV
  • Toyota Tundra pickup truck

These are just the models, mind you, as the company also plans to release multiple versions of these cars.

The Tundra, for example, will be made available in both a TRD Pro and Capstone Edition, while the GMC Sierra units will be sold in both an AT4X AEV and Denali Ultimate trim.

Another interesting case is “The CEO,” which is a bespoke version of the GMC Yukon Denali XL that offers ‘private jet’ levels of luxury with an interior featuring custom seats, a 40-inch HD TV, a fridge, and gaming devices including a PlayStation and Xbox.

On top of all of this, Autogroup stated that it will bring “a curated selection of iconic American muscle cars,” though it didn’t list which vehicles this would include.

However, in a previous statement, the company mentioned that the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chevrolet Camaro were on the cards, which certainly fit the description of a quarter-mile street racer and would bring the list of imports up to 11, excluding model variants.

As mentioned, each car has been converted from left-hand to right-hand drive and has undergone a complete homologation process, meaning they are legal for road use in South Africa.

Autogroup also provides a 3-year/100,000km warranty, and each purchase is backed by an aftersales support programme with spare parts availability through Rospa International, which has trained technicians in South Africa’s major cities.

“Our partnership with Rospa International marks a major milestone – not just for us, but for South African
automotive enthusiasts who have long dreamed of owning a right-hand drive American pickup truck or SUV that meets local standards,” said Rob Hill, CEO of Autogroup International.
