New Porsche 911 4S for South Africa – Pricing revealed

Porsche has revealed three new models for the iconic 911 series, all of which are coming to South Africa.

All three options bear the “4S” designation and are split across the Carrera Coupe, Carrera Cabriolet, and Targa body types, with prices starting at R3,250,000.

Performance

As a reminder, the “4” in the 4S badge refers to 911 models with all-wheel-drive (AWD), rather than the classic rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup.

Similarly, the “S” indicates that these units all have powerful engines, which is most certainly the case.

The Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa are all fitted with a 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged flat-six petrol engine, which is mounted at the back.

This produces a tremendous 353kW and 530Nm, allowing the Carrera models to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

The Targa, meanwhile, has an ever-so-slightly slower acceleration time of 3.7 seconds.

Additionally, all three models share the same top speed of 308km/h.

Power is distributed to the tarmac via the aforementioned AWD system, which is linked to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The German carmaker noted that roughly half of all 911 customers who buy an S model opt for AWD, hence the decision to introduce three more variants that appeal to this demographic.

That being said, Porsche has skewed the car’s driving dynamics to be biased towards the rear, meaning you can still experience the feeling of a RWD model when driving the 4S.

The 911 is also fitted with the Porsche Traction Management system, which can provide additional torque to the front axle when needed to provide better stability.

As far as the differences between the models are concerned, the Cabriolet and Targa offer a convertible design with additional safety features.

The rear window can fold, and there’s a wide roll bar to protect occupants in the event the car flips in an accident.

Standard equipment on the performance car includes 20 to 21-inch S alloy wheels, a sport exhaust, red brake calipers, Matrix LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a wireless phone charger, leather upholstery, and a 10.9-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
