Forza Motorsport is dead – Report

A former team member has claimed that one of the most popular racing video game series is being shut down.

Turn 10 Studios, which develops the popular Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon series, has been gutted by recent Microsoft layoffs.

According to former employee Chris Harding, approximately 120 employees were let go from the Forza Motorsport team alone.

As a result of these releases, the Turn 10 Studios team’s former content coordinator, Fred Russell, said on Facebook that the team developing and supporting the Forza Motorsport games is no more.

“Turn 10 Studios has shuttered the Forza Motorsport space and the team is no more,” said Russell.

“A very sad day for one of the best car racing video games.”

According to Russell, the team will continue developing the other popular Forza title – Forza Horizon.

“The studio is open to support the Horizon side,” said Russell.

“[Turn 10 Studios has] shuttered the Forza Motorsport side only.”

Forza Horizon is an arcade-style racing game, while Forza Motorsport is targeted at gamers who want an experience that more accurately represents real life racing conditions.

Forza Horizon has become the more popular of the two Forza games in recent years, in part thanks to its open-world design and more accessible gameplay.

However, Forza Motorsport has served as Microsoft’s primary competitor to the hugely popular, sim-style Gran Turismo series that is available on PlayStation consoles.

The shuttering of Forza Motorsport will come as a huge blow to the large sim racing community, to which the Forza Motorsport games have served as one of the genre’s staple titles.

“The legacy will stay, even if there is no future for the game,” said Russell.
