JAC Motors South Africa has confirmed that its 5.5-tonne, all-electric N55 EV truck is coming to South Africa.
“We are extremely excited about the upcoming launch of the N55 EV later this year,” said JAC.
A spokesperson for the brand told TopAuto the arrival of the truck is expected to happen around mid-July, “but the plan needs to be confirmed” they added.
As such, we have little information about the N55 EV – except for what is available on its international model page.
What to expect
The N55 EV boasts the “latest EV technology” that JAC has to offer.
It’s powered by a liquid-cooled, 96.77kWh LFP battery that has been fire and water tested (pictured below), and can be charged from 0-100% in two hours.
It also provides a driving range of 200km, and will push the truck from 0-50km/h in eight seconds.
The N55 EV can scale inclines of up to 16.7 degrees, carry a maximum cargo of 2.5 tonnes, and achieve a top speed of 90km/h.
Due to the electrical powertrain, it also features regenerative braking, as well as an economical driving mode.
This causes the all-electric truck to decrease fuel costs by 50% and maintenance costs by 30% when compared to traditional internal-combustion-engine models, said JAC.
As truck interiors go, the N55 EV has quite a nice one.
It spans 1,995mm from one window to the other and incorporates two seats, a multifunction steering wheel, electric windows, and a manual air-conditioner.
Connectivity is then taken care of by an 8-inch touch display that supports Bluetooth, music streaming, navigation, and vehicle monitoring and control systems.
It also has ABS and a pedestrian warning system, and has its own fault diagnosis system.
It must be noted that these features apply to the international model, and might not be the exact specifications of the truck that will arrive in South Africa.
At the moment, pricing for the N55 EV truck in South Africa is confidential – with the full spec sheet and price list to be released at a later date.
