New flight coming to South Africa

Local airline CemAir has announced that it will be launching a new domestic route between George and Hoedspruit.

Flights will begin on 17 May 2026, and operate three times per week – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a limited schedule on Sundays.

The airline said this offers South Africans a link between two of the country’s most inconic travel destinations – the safari-rich lowveld and the picturesque Garden Route.

“We are pleased to launch a direct connection between Hoedspruit and George – two destinations that showcase the very best of South Africa’s natural beauty,” said Shaniel Singh, Chief Commercial Officer at CemAir.

“This route removes the need for travellers to transit through major hubs and strengthens local tourism by making travel between the bush and the coast more convenient and accessible.”

Fares will start from R4,800, and passengers can enjoy CemAir’s full-service offering, which includes complimentary checked baggage and onboard catering.

The airline said this move provides a valuable link for tour operators, safari lodges, and travellers between the Kruger area and the Garden Route.

This new service is part of CemAir’s commitment to expanding regional connectivity and supporting South Africa’s domestic travel and tourism sectors.

The new flight schedule is as follows:

George to Hoedspruit – Flight 970:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: departs George at 08:10 and arrives in Hoedspruit at 10:25.
  • Sundays: departs George at 10:05 and arrives in Hoedspruit at 12:20.

Hoedspruit to George – Flight 971:

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: departs Hoedspruit at 10:55 and arrives in George at 13:20.
  • Sundays: departs Hoedspruit at 12:40 and arrives in George at 15:05.

CemAir added that it plans to increase the frequency of flights between the two destinations as demand grows.
