Mercedes-Benz slashes prices by R122,000 in South Africa

Mercedes-Benz has dropped the price of the C-Class by up to R122,000 in South Africa.

Our helpful sources at Duoporta Vehicle Information Specialists informed us that the German carmaker has quietly reduced the price tag of the luxurious C-Class sedan by a considerable amount.

The exact figure varies from model to model, with savings ranging from R86,970 to R122,080.

The reduction applies to both the petrol C200 and the diesel C220d units, though the high-performance AMG models are unaffected.

The C220d Avantgarde has seen the biggest cut, although the savings are substantial across the board.

A luxury sedan with a “Black Friday” price cut

The C-Class is, of course, one of the the most popular vehicles with a three-pointed star on the bonnet.

Produced at Mercedes-Benz South Africa’s factory in the Eastern Cape, the sedan is available in two trim levels with one of two engines.

Kicking things off is the C200, which takes the form of a 1.5-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol block with 48V mild hybrid technology.

This gives the upmarket saloon a total of 165kW and 300Nm, which is sent to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

As a result, it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a brisk 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 246km/h.

Thanks to its mild hybrid assistance, it also achieves a relatively economical average fuel consumption of 6.8l/100km.

Of course, if fuel usage is a concern, you’d be better served by the 220d, which promises more torque and fewer trips to the pump.

Under the hood is a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel powertrain (also with mild hybrid assistance), which generates 162kW and 440Nm.

It has the same acceleration time and top speed as the petrol model, but manages a very frugal average of 4.3l/100km.

Befitting its luxury status, the Mercedes has a generous spec sheet that starts with automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive suspension, keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, electric front seats with heating and lumbar support, faux leather upholstery, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch MBUX infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

It also comes with cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and seven airbags.

The AMG Line will then add several sporty-themed features like aluminium pedals with rubber studs, larger 19-inch alloy rims, Sports seats, and suede-and-artificial-leather upholstery,

Each purchase includes a 2-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan.
