Chery sold a grand total of 2,462 cars in April 2026, continuing its month-on-month growth from January through March.
This makes it the seventh-best-selling car brand in South Africa, just behind its main rival, GWM.
Chery relaunched in South Africa in 2021 and has quickly established itself as one of the nation’s leading brands, competing with well-established names like VW, Suzuki, and Hyundai.
Much of this success can be attributed to its most affordable model, the Tiggo 4 Pro, and the facelifted version, known as the Tiggo Cross.
In April, the Tiggo 4 and Cross sold 1,871 units, accounting for 75.9% of the carmaker’s total sales.
The Tiggo Cross is one of the most affordable SUVs in South Africa, following the introduction of the base-spec LiT units, which start at R279,900.
“April was an excellent month for Chery South Africa, with nearly 2,500 vehicles sold last month,” said Jay Jay Botes, General Manager for Chery South Africa.
“It’s a clear reflection of the strength of our Tiggo range. The Tiggo 4 Pro continues to be our key volume driver, and the introduction of the Tiggo Cross LiT derivative has added further momentum to an already strong performer.”
Chery’s other models – the Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, and Tiggo 9 – also sold well last month.
The Tiggo 7 moved 425 units, and the Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 added 119 and 47 units to the carmaker’s total, respectively.
April’s total of 2,642 sales continues Chery’s growth streak in 2026, as the brand recorded 2,258 sales in January, 2,312 in February, and 2,390 in March.
This adds up to 9,422 units within the first four months of 2026, with the Tiggo 4 Pro line accounting for 7,193 of those units.
The carmaker provided a breakdown of its sales over the past four months:
| Model | January 2026 | February 2026 | March 2026 | April 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chery Tiggo 4 & Cross | 1,625 | 1,809 | 1,888 | 1,871 |
| Chery Tiggo 7 | 399 | 361 | 290 | 425 |
| Chery Tiggo 8 | 181 | 91 | 174 | 119 |
| Chery Tiggo 9 | 53 | 51 | 38 | 47 |
| Total: | 2,258 | 2,312 | 2,390 | 2,462 |
“Chery’s performance in April shows that the brand continues to build real traction in South Africa,” said the company.
“Our focus remains on offering customers strong value, high specification levels and a model range that meets the needs of South African motorists. This includes our CSH hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, which form part of Chery’s continued expansion in the local market.”
Chery’s sub-brands also gaining traction

April was also an excellent month for two of Chery’s sub-brands – Omoda & Jaecoo, and Jetour.
Omoda launched in South Africa in April 2023, and Jaecoo followed a year later in April 2024, forming the twin brand Omoda & Jaecoo (O&J).
Jetour made its debut a few months later in September 2024.
In the 2-3 years these nameplates have been in South Africa, they have rapidly climbed through the ranks to become top 10 best-selling brands.
In April 2026, Jetour came eighth with 1,804 sales, while O&J came ninth with 1,383 units.
This puts them ahead of several other badges in South Africa, including BMW, Isuzu, Kia, Renault, and Nissan.
Chery also launched another sub-brand in South Africa this year, Lepas, but it’s too early for them to report sales to Naamsa.
Another sub-brand, iCAUR, is set to arrive this May, bringing a selection of electric Adventure SUVs that are quite different to the models offered by Chery’s other brands.
