Petrol price predictions for June 2021

According to the Automobile Association of South Africa (AA), prices for diesel and illuminating paraffin are set to go up in June – while petrol prices are expected to go down.

The prediction was made by the AA after the release of the unaudited month-end fuel price data by the Central Energy Fund.

The expected fuel price adjustments for South Africa in June 2021, based on the above-mentioned date, are as follows:

  • Petrol – 11 cents per litre decrease
  • Diesel – 22 cents per litre increase
  • Illuminating Paraffin – 21 cents per litre increase

“The rand continued to strengthen against the US dollar throughout May, while international oil prices remained mostly flat,” said the AA.

“But the sharp spike in oil at the start of the month is still spilling over into the data, with the prices of refined diesel having seen a bigger impact than petrol.”

The AA further noted that the continuing strength of the rand is good news.

“For as long as our currency continues to put in strong performances against the US dollar, the impact of rebounding international oil prices will be softened,” concluded the AA.
