Japanese carmaker opens new dealership in one of South Africa’s biggest cities

Mazda Southern Africa has expanded its national footprint with the opening of its new MEKOR Mazda dealership in Cape Town.

Located at 14 Christiaan Barnard Street in Foreshore in the CBD, the new dealership follows MEKOR Motor’s recent acquisition of the Mazda franchise in Cape Town.

The new Mazda dealership in Cape Town City joins the brand’s network alongside its Tygervalley and Claremont branches, giving customers access to three MEKOR Mazda showrooms strategically located across the region.

The company said this expansion is about more than growing its physical footprint. It is about making the complete Mazda experience more accessible, from the excitement of discovering a new vehicle to the service, care and support that continue throughout ownership.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Mazda Cape Town City to our dealer network and bring the Mazda experience closer to even more customers in the Western Cape,” said Deolinda da Costa, Head of Marketing and Communications at Mazda Southern Africa.

“For us, Wonder is about those moments that turn an everyday journey into something memorable.”

“That experience begins long before you get behind the wheel. It starts from the moment you walk into a Mazda dealership and continues throughout your journey with us.”

The MEKOR Group said the dealership builds on a relationship with Mazda that spans two decades.

When Mazda launched its independent operations in South Africa in 2014, MEKOR opened Mazda dealerships in Tygervalley and Claremont.

“Our relationship with Mazda has always been built on people, trust and support,” said Dawie Krynauw, Managing Director of MEKOR Group.

“The people we have worked with over the years have been easy to do business with, they have supported us consistently, and they do what they say they will do. That gives us confidence to continue investing in the brand.”

The company acknowledged that the current automotive and economic landscape presents a challenging environment for legacy carmakers, but said it remains confident about Mazda’s future in South Africa.

“The market is tough, but we believe every new Mazda model creates an opportunity for the brand to become even more competitive,” said Krynauw.

“There will always be customers who value Japanese engineering, a rich heritage and vehicles designed to last. That gives us confidence in Mazda and in the opportunity ahead.”
