The new VW Tiguan will go on sale in South Africa on 1 July 2021, at a starting price of R521,000.
“The new Tiguan now has a sharper exterior design, new technological highlights, and a host of new interior features,” said VW.
At launch, the new Tiguan will be available with two petrol engines and three trim lines – Tiguan, Life, R-Line – with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel model joining the range in the fourth quarter of the year.
What’s new
The updated VW Tiguan SUV features a sharper exterior design, with a redesigned front bumper, a new radiator grille, and wider and flatter LED matrix headlights.
It’s further differentiated by additional detail lines on the bonnet, a central Tiguan badge on the tailgate, and an array of new exterior colours: Ginger Brown, Kings Red, Lapiz Blue, Night Shade Blue, and Dolphin Grey.
The interior then received the bulk of the new upgrades, which were aimed at improving the standard features.
Standard equipment across the range now includes:
- Cruise control
- MIB3 Infotainment system
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 17-inch “Montana” alloy wheels
- Emergency braking with front assist
- Touch-sensitive air-conditioner controls
In addition, the Life trim gets 18-inch “Frankfurt” alloy wheels, climatronic air-conditioning, front and rear park distance control, and an electric tailgate.
The range-topping R-Line is fitted with 19-inch “Valencia” alloy wheels, ambient lighting, Vienna leather seats, an active info display, Composition Media infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel with touch-sensitive buttons, and keyless entry.
Performance
The Tiguan will initially be offered with two petrol engines, paired with a six-speed or seven-speed automatic DSG transmission.
The 1.4-litre petrol variant produces 110kW and 250Nm, sprints to 100km/h in 9.2 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 200km/h.
The range-topping 2.0-litre TSI motor generates 162kW and 350Nm, accelerates from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 225km/h.
This model will also be driven by all four wheels, while the rest of the derivatives send power to the front wheels only.
