Ferrari 296 GTB coming to South Africa

The new Ferrari 296 GTB will be available for sale in South Africa, according to Ferrari South Africa.

“We do not have a launch date confirmed as yet, however,” said the company.

Ferrari said this new car was designed to deliver a new “concept of fun” behind the wheel.

This is done through fitting a new 3.0-litre, turbocharged V6, petrol-hybrid engine.

The internal combustion engine produces 488kW, and pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an E-Diff.

In addition, the plug-in hybrid system is used to cut down throttle response time, as well as provide an extra 122kW of power.

The entire set-up generates a healthy 610kW and 740Nm, with power sent to the rear wheels only.

It also has a 25km electric driving range, thanks to a 7.45kWh high-voltage battery located under the floor.

The result is impressive.

Performance Ferrari 296 GTB
0-100km/h 2.9 seconds
0-200km/h 7.3 seconds
200-0km/h 107 metres
Top Speed 330km/h

To help the Ferrari 296 GTB reach these impressive speeds, it was fitted with a range of sophisticated aerodynamic components.

As an added bonus, these make the car look ultra-cool, as well.

All of the vital heat-generating engine parts have been shifted to the upper centre area of the engine bay, which allows for more efficient heat management of the system.

Additionally, for the first time on a Ferrari road car, the 296 GTB uses its front end to generate downforce rather than manage drag.

This can create up to 360kg of downforce in the track-focussed Assetto Fiorano package.

A LaFerrari-inspired active rear spoiler then generates additional downforce to maximise handling and braking performance, while a sports suspension system with 20-inch, twin-spoke, alloy wheels keeps handling at Ferrari standards.

The interior of the 296 GTB takes inspiration from the current range-topping hybrid model, the SF90 Stradale.

It brings advanced tech in the form of a touch-capacitive multifunction steering wheel and a large digital instrument cluster, while the overall look retains a minimalist and upscale aesthetic.

An optional performance readout screen can also be fitted to the dash in front of the passenger’s seat, which will tell them how quickly they are travelling in the newest Ferrari.

7-year maintenance

Each purchase of a new Ferrari 296 GTB includes a seven-year maintenance programme.

“This scheduled maintenance programme for Ferraris is an exclusive service that allows clients the certainty that their car is being kept at peak performance and safety over the years,” said Ferrari.
