New BMW 2 Series coming to South Africa – What you need to know

BMW has unveiled the new 2 Series Coupe.

According to BMW, the new 2 Series has a character that is focused on performance, with components originally made for the larger ranges now finding their way into the 2 Series as standard.

The South African market launch for the BMW 2 Series Coupe is expected to happen in the first quarter of 2022.

What’s new

The new 2 Series is a great departure from its predecessor in terms of looks.

It has been redesigned from the ground up, while every exterior dimension grew as well.

The line-up is now 105mm longer, 64mm wider, and 28mm lower than the outgoing generation, while the range-topping M240i features even more aggressive measurements.

At the front, the range gets a new kidney grille with active air flaps in place of solid bars, along with BMW 02-inspired LED headlights.

Providing extra flair on this athletic model are 19-inch alloy wheels and more pronounced wheel arches on each specification.

The interior continues the upmarket and dynamic look, with an array of new features and driver assistance systems available in the 2 Series for the first time.

Standard equipment comprises the BMW Live Cockpit with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

In addition, every model comes with three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, sports seats, a leather multifunction steering wheel, cloud-based navigation, and BMW ConnectedDrive in-car services.

It then fits up to 390 litres of cargo in the boot, while a maximum towing capacity of 1,600kg is available once the optional tow hook is fitted.

Engine line-up

At launch, three variants of the BMW 2 Series Coupe will be available – each paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with shifter paddles.

The engine specifications for these models are as follows.
