Formula E race coming to South Africa

Jaguar South Africa has confirmed that Cape Town will be included as a host city for a round of the Formula E World Championship, in February 2022.

“This is a historic first for our country and Jaguar South Africa is ecstatic to have been part of the team to secure Formula E for Cape Town and South Africa,” said Richard Gouverneur, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover South Africa.

Jaguar will work alongside e-Movement, a UK-based e-mobility company, to assist the City of Cape Town in finalising the preparations needed for a successful event.

“The Cape Town round will be the first FIA World Championship single-seater race in South Africa since the 1993 South African Grand Prix,” said Jaguar.

“We look forward to working toward this event,” said Dan Plato, Cape Town Mayor.

“The city has the necessary infrastructure and skills to host an event of this size and we are confident that the event will further cement Cape Town’s global reputation as the world’s leading festival and event destination.”

The 2022 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship provisional calendar is detailed below.

The dates for the Canadian, South African, and South Korean stages are subject to track homologation, said the FIA.
