The South African pricing for the new Renault Kiger has been released, with the entry-level Life model coming in at R199,900.
The Kiger is a compact SUV that slots in between the Renault Kwid and Sandero, with two 1.0-litre petrol engines on offer.
It also achieves a claimed best-in-class boot space, sports 16-inch alloy wheels, provides 205mm of ground clearance, and has integrated roof rails that can carry up to 50kg.
Features
The Renault Kiger will be sold in Life, Zen, and Intens specifications, with a “smart cabin” that offers an array of features across the line-up.
As standard, each Kiger Zen and Intens are fitted with an 8.0-inch infotainment display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as LED lights with daytime running lights, a six-speaker Arkamys sound system, a multifunction steering wheel, and a manual air conditioner.
The Zen trim then adds keyless entry and start, ambient lighting, and a drive mode selector – which provides Normal, Sport, and Eco drive modes.
At the top, the range-topping Intens derivative is differentiated by a two-tone body colour, a reverse camera, and a 7.0-inch configurable TFT instrument cluster.
Selecting Sport mode turns the instrument cluster red and sharpens engine and throttle response, said Renault.
Luggage capacity for the Kiger comes in at 405 litres with the rear seats up and 879 litres with all the seats down – with dimensions spanning 3,991mm in length, 1,600mm in height, and 1,750mm in width.
In the safety department, the Renault Kiger offers ABS, rear parking sensors, and impact sensing door unlocks, while the more expensive models are fitted with four airbags and an electronic stability programme.
The company did not specify how many airbags the entry-level model has.
The Kiger has also not been put through any official crash tests, but Renault said its safety features are “in line with 3-star global NCAP requirements”.
Engines
Two 1.0-litre, petrol engines are on offer in the Renault Kiger, with one naturally aspirated and one turbocharged.
The naturally-aspirated motor produces 52kW and 96Nm, and pairs to either a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox.
The turbocharged motor generates 74kW and 160Nm in the five-speed manual specification, while a CVT transmission option is also available.
