The Hyundai Atos is now available with a five-speed “automatic manual transmission” (AMT) in South Africa.
According to Hyundai, this AMT Atos underwent extensive testing at varying levels of altitude throughout the country before it was given the green light to be launched.
Standard features
As standard, the Hyundai Atos comes with body-coloured bumpers, a black grille, and 14-inch steel wheels, and is offered in one of five colours – Fiery Red, Polar White, Titan Grey, Nicobar Blue, and Typhoon Silver.
The “tall boy design” makes the Atos 3.61m long, 1.64m wide, and 1.56m high – with a kerb weight coming in at 866kg.
This allows “a lot of head space and leg room, with good visibility and ergonomics that ensures a comfortable ride”, said Hyundai South Africa.
It also provides 444 litres of cargo capacity in the boot.
Inside, the Atos is sold in Motion trim-level only, and features a multifunction steering wheel, a manual air conditioner, front electric windows, “durable” seats, and a 7-inch infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
In addition, it offers ABS, central locking, and two airbags – and scores a 2-star Global NCAP safety rating.
Performance
Driving the Hyundai Atos AMT is the same 1.1-litre, four-cylinder, petrol motor found in the manual model – putting out 50kW and 99Nm.
In the AMT derivative, this power output allows a top speed of 155km/h and a combined fuel consumption of 5.9l/100km.
This results in an estimated range of 593km on a single tank.
“The power, as well as the maximum torque of 99Nm which comes at 2,800 revolutions per minute, compares very favourably with a range of competitors in the market,” said Hyundai.
Price
The Hyundai Atos 1.1 Motion has a South African price of R189,900.
Each purchase includes a 5-year/150,000km mechanical warranty with an additional 2-year/50,000km powertrain warranty, a 1-year/15,000km service plan, and 7-year/150,000km roadside assistance.
