New Subaru Forester with more power launching in South Africa – The details

Subaru South Africa is launching Forester models with “more power” in South Africa.

The vehicles will also come with a new trim for “distinctive styling”, while the top-end models receive a 2.5-litre Boxer engine, said the company.

The upgraded Forester models will be available from March 2021 and are as follows:

  • Forester 2.0i-CVT
  • Forester 2.0i-S ES CVT
  • Forester 2.5i-S ES CVT
  • Forester 2.5i Sport ES CVT

Subaru stated that all options are sold with a 3-year/75,000km maintenance plan and a 5-year/150,000km warranty – with pricing set to be confirmed closer to launch.

“The headlining act will be the new Subaru Forester 2.5i Sport ES model, which brings a refreshing and sporty design to the model line-up,” said the company.

“The introduction of the 2.5-litre [engine] and the Sport model to the line-up is so important for us as a brand, because it gives our customers more options and a more personalised experience,” said Nteo Nkoli, Marketing Lead for Subaru SA.

Subaru’s 2.5-litre Boxer engine in the Forester will be paired with Lineartronic CVT transmission and deliver 136kW of power and peak torque of 239Nm.

Power is then delivered to all the wheels through “All-Wheel Drive with X-Mode” across the entire 2021 range.

“Despite the increase in power, the 2.5-litre remains as efficient as the 2.0-litre model, delivering impressive fuel consumption figures of 7.6l/100km on the combined cycle,” said the company.

The Sport model

The top-of-the line option among the new vehicles is the Forester 2.5i Sport.

A new feature on this option is water repellent seats – available for the first time locally – which can handle wet swimming costumes and towels, and “soggy paws from our furry friends”.

Buyers can then select from one of five colour combinations for their Forester.

Colour options are: Crystal White Pearl; Dark Blue Pearl; Magnetite Grey Metallic; Ice Silver Metallic; and Crystal Black Silica.

“The Sport contrasts the body colour with distinctive orange and black trim pieces. The grille and bumper elements are finished in black as are the side sills, wheel arch surrounds, rear bumpers and the top section of the boot lid.”

Orange accents are also placed on the interior, too, and cover elements like the air vents, gear shifter, and X-Mode switch.

In terms of safety, the EyeSight Driver Assist System is fitted with the 2.5i-Sport ES and the 2.5i-S ES models, and integrates with “Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lane Keep Assist”.

Reverse automatic braking is also included on EyeSight-equipped models.
