Hyundai has unveiled its Staria 11-seater luxury MPV, which is set to replace the company’s H1 Bus.
The Staria is larger and more luxurious than the model it is replacing, and will be available locally in four specifications – the 9-seater Executive, 11-seater Executive, 9-seater Elite, and 9-seater Luxury.
The entire range is powered by one engine option, with the cheapest model starting at R789,900.
Specifications
The futuristic new Hyundai Staria is one of the largest MPVs currently on the market, measuring 5,253mm long, 1,997mm wide, and 1,990mm tall – allowing 831 litres of rear cargo space in the 9-seater models and 117 litres in 11-seater models.
Standard features on the entry-level Executives include automatic headlights with daytime running lights, automatic airconditioning with rear vents, artificial leather seats, a multifunction steering wheel, a 4.2-inch driver’s display, cruise control, blind-spot collision warning, parking sensors, a rear-view monitor, a wireless charger, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Each model also features an 8.0-inch infotainment display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multiple Bluetooth connections, and rear-seat quiet mode.
Stepping up to the Elite trim brings along an e-shifter for changing gears, a powered driver seat, heated and ventilated front seats, keyless entry and start, powered sliding doors, rear window curtains, a powered tailgate, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, smart cruise control, and blind-spot collision avoidance with lane keep and forward collision assist.
On the outside, the Elite is set apart from the Executive by 18-inch wheels and all-round LED lights.
The range-topping Staria Luxury gets all of the above features, while adding a bit more.
This derivative sports Nappa leather upholstery, powered front seats, heated and ventilated first and second-row seats, a blind-spot monitor in the digital instrument cluster, a Bose surround sound system, a surround-view monitor, a dual sunroof, and ambient lighting.
The Luxury is also the only model with independently swivelling second-row seats.
Every Staria’s first row of seats can also slide horizontally by 140mm, second row by 320mm, and third row by 700mm.
Power
Driving the Staria range is a 2.2-litre, diesel engine that produces 130kW and 430Nm.
The motor pairs to an eight-speed “shift-by-wire” automatic transmission that delivers power to the front wheels.
Combined fuel consumption for this setup is rated at 8.7l/100km, top speed at 185km/h, and 0-100km/h acceleration at 12.4 seconds.
The Staria also supports a maximum braked towing capacity of 2,500kg.
