Chery Tiggo 8 Pro coming to South Africa

Chery South Africa has announced that it will launch its flagship Tiggo 8 Pro range in the country in the coming weeks.

The manufacturer decided to speed up the plans for introducing the Tiggo 8 Pro after the newly-released Tiggo 4 Pro became a large sales success in months, adding five additional dealerships to Chery’s nationwide footprint.

“The success of the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro has surprised our dealer network, who reports increasing interest and sales of all models in the range,” said Chery South Africa.

Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa Tony Liu said the local subsidiary has already received a commitment from the Chery head office in China for additional production units of both the Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro ranges.

The Tiggo 8 Pro models have already been tested and homologated for South Africa, too, he said.

“While the Tiggo 4 Pro and our 1-million-kilometre mechanical warranty has done a lot to demonstrate the quality and technology available in Chery vehicles, the Tiggo 8 Pro will simply blow people away,” said Liu.

What we know

Liu confirmed that two models of the Tiggo 8 Pro will be available at launch, both equipped with Chery’s in-house 1.6-litre, turbocharged petrol engine.

This motor uses “advanced thermal management, adaptive turbocharging, and direction injection” to deliver 136kW and 290Nm.

Both Tiggo 8 Pro specifications then get an around-view monitor, an eight-speaker Sony sound system, dual-zone climate control with “pharmaceutical grade” air filtration, and two high-definition TFT displays.

The top-end model receives a third TFT display as well, while every trim will offer seven seats as standard.

In China, the Tiggo 8 Pro boasts a six-way electrically-adjustable and heated driver seat, 1,179 litres of cargo space in five-seater mode, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, and lane-keep assist as standard, although these features have not yet been confirmed for South Africa.
