Porsche has unveiled the new Macan T, which will slot in between the base Macan and Macan S models.
The T-badged vehicles from Porsche – T for Touring – have always been the driver-focused models in the range, seeing exclusive performance-enhancing additions and weight-savings techniques to achieve unique driving characteristics.
Thus far, the moniker has only been reserved for the 718 and 911 ranges, with the Macan marking the first “four-door sports car” to receive the T treatment, said Porsche.
Performance
The new Macan T is fitted with a model-specific chassis that is lowered by 15mm compared to the rest of the line-up, and is the only Porsche to feature steel suspension with Active Suspension Management as standard.
At the front of the Macan T lies a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that generates 190kW and 400Nm.
This connects to a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives all four wheels, allowing the SUV to sprint to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds. Top speed is rated at 232km/h.
The Porsche traction management system was then tuned to be rear-wheel bias in the Macan T, while firmer anti-roll bars and chassis tuning results in a “very responsive steering behaviour and agile handling,” said Porsche.
Buyers can further get an adaptive air suspension system that lowers the body by another 10mm for an additional cost.
Features
As part of its T designation, the Macan T is equipped with a host of exterior and interior highlights that sets it apart from its siblings.
Around the outside, this includes sports tailpipes, dark titanium 20-inch alloys, high-gloss black window trims, and Agate Grey Metallic mirrors, front trim, side blades, roof spoiler, and logos.
Customers can also choose from 13 exterior hues.
Inside, standard equipment includes eight-way electrically-adjustable sports seats, decorative silver stitching, the GT Sports multifunction steering wheel, black aluminium door sills, a Sport Chrono stopwatch, and a 10.9-inch infotainment display.
Price
The new Porsche Macan T has a South African starting price of R1,190,000.
Each purchase includes a 3-year/100,000km Driveplan.
The new Macan T can now be ordered in South Africa with the first customer deliveries expected for mid-year, Porsche South Africa told TopAuto.
