Chery has launched its luxury SUV, the Tiggo 8 Pro, in South Africa.
Two models are on offer at launch – Distinctive and Executive – with the range starting at R496,900.
Chery said the Tiggo 8 Pro is aimed at providing South Africans with a “first class” experience, without requiring buyers to purchase a long list of optional extras.
“In planning for the South African introduction of the Tiggo 8 Pro, we used the analogy of first-class travel. Once in first class, your every need is satisfied. There are no hidden costs, no surprise bills, and luxury is a given,” said the company.
Chery added that South Africa is the first right-hand-drive country in the world to receive the Tiggo 8 Pro.
What you get
The new Tiggo 8 Pro shares the stylish design language of its smaller sibling, the recently-launched Tiggo 4 Pro, with every model seeing a “three-dimensional” grille, matrix-LED headlamps with daytime running lights, satin chrome finishes, LED rear lights with dual fog lights, illuminated sills, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the company has moved all major controls over three screens.
The first is the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which is accompanied by a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and below this an 8-inch display for the dual-zone climate control functions.
Furthermore, each new Tiggo 8 Pro is equipped with an eight-speaker Sony surround sound system, a reverse camera, a wireless charger, keyless entry and start, intelligent voice control, seven leather seats, a powered driver seat, three USB ports, and ambient lighting.
The pricier Executive models also get climate control for the rearmost seats, a brown-and-black interior with diamond-pattern stitching, an electrically-adjustable front passenger seat, and privacy glass.
Chery said that it has made no compromise on safety in its new flagship SUV, resulting in every variant being equipped with six airbags, traction control, roll stability control, ABS with emergency brake assist, rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking view, hill-start and downhill assist, and automatic window closing.
As the range-topping spec, the Executive then sees an array of advanced driver assistance features including lane departure warning, automatic cruise control, automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, intelligent high-beam control, blind-spot monitoring, front collision warning, an emergency brake override system, and door opening warning and prevention.
Power
Driving the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is a 1.6-litre, turbo-petrol engine delivering 145kW and 290Nm, mated to a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The entire range is front-wheel drive and provides standard, Eco, and Sport driving modes.
