New Opel Zafira in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Opel has launched the new Zafira Life in South Africa, marking the fourth generation for the model.

The new multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) has a local starting price of R749,900.

With two available models, the Zafira Life aims to satisfy both family and business clientele, promising a driving experience that is fun as well as comfortable, said Opel.

Features

The new entry-level Opel Zafira Life Edition features sliding doors, while the more expensive Zafira Life Elegance includes hands-free electric sliding doors that can be operated remotely.

Both models are fitted with halogen headlights, front fog lamps, and automatic headlight function, as well as a heated rear-windscreen and rear wiper blade.

Moving to the interior, you’ll find a cooled glovebox and cellphone storage tray as standard.

As the more affordable option, the Edition is then aimed at families with its eight cloth-lined seats.

The Elegance, on the other hand, offers itself as a more luxurious business-aligned model with a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, and seven seats – allowing for two individual seats in the second row, additional arm-rests, and a centre-folding table.

Furthermore, this specification brings heated front seats, dual-zone climate control with rear-seat vents, sunshade curtains, and keyless entry and start.

The car’s infotainment system comprises a 7-inch touchscreen with USB, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility.

The standard derivative is equipped with six speakers, while the more expensive model has 10.

Regarding safety, both models have front and side airbags as well as driver attention alert, which alerts the driver via the instrument panel after two hours of uninterrupted driving.

The Elegance’s driver attention alert also comes with a road behaviour feature that monitors the driver’s behaviour via a camera and steering wheel movements and sends an audible and visual alert if a loss of attention is detected.

Other features on the Elegance include lane departure warning, blind-spot detection, forward brake assist, and a speed sign detection system which utilizes the car’s camera to detect speed limit signs and then relay this information to the driver via the instrument panel and heads-up display.

Front and rear parking sensors with a 180-degree reverse camera can be fitted as an optional extra.

Performance

Both models of the new Zafira Life come with a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine with stop/start technology, which develops 110kW and 370Nm.

The vehicle has an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels and offers a fuel economy of 6.3l/100km on a combined cycle.

Price

The South African pricing for the Opel Zafira Life is as follows:
