Mitsubishi launches mid-range Pajero Sport Aspire in South Africa – Pricing and specifications

Mitsubishi has launched the Pajero Sport Aspire in South Africa which slots in as the new mid-range specification.

The Aspire will be available in both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive specifications, with a starting price of R674,995.

The Pajero Sport line-up now comprises five models in total.

Pajero Sport Aspire specifications

On the outside, the new Pajero Sport Aspire can be identified through its factory-fitted Dynamic Shield grille, 18-inch alloys, and roof rails all finished in black.

The Aspire models will only be sold in Jet Black or Diamond White, too, along with a two-tone roof.

Inside the seven-seater cabin, standard equipment includes black leather seats, a powered driver seat with lumbar support, auto-leveling dusk-sensing LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a leather multifunction steering wheel, cruise control, a digital instrument cluster, and dual-zone climate control.

Also fitted is an 8-inch infotainment display with Bluetooth and voice control, along with three USB ports and one 220V plug.

In addition, the Pajero Sport Aspire brings seven airbags, ABS with emergency braking, hill-start assist, trailer stability assist, rear parking sensors, and a rear-view camera, while the 4×4 models further get hill-descent control.

Drivetrain

Driving the Pajero Sport Aspire is the same 2.4-litre, turbo-diesel engine found in the rest of the line-up, putting out 133kW and 430Nm.

An eight-speed automatic gearbox drives either the rear wheels or all four, and provides low-rpm, high-speed cruising with a focus on efficiency, said Mitsubishi.

In the derivatives with the 4×4 drivetrain, four selectable off-road drive modes will then be available, comprising Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand, and Rock.

Combined fuel consumption stands at 8.1l/100km and maximum braked towing capacity at 2,700kg for both models.

The SUV also boasts a maximum cargo capacity of 620kg for the rear-wheel-drive and 695kg for the all-wheel-drive models, with ground clearance coming in at 218mm regardless of specification.

Price

The South African pricing for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport line-up is as follows:

Each purchase includes a 3-year/100,000km warranty, a 5-year/90,000km service plan, and five years of roadside assistance.
