Key models of current Isuzu D-Max will still be sold after next generation launches

Isuzu South Africa has announced that it will be retaining a limited number of key models from the current D-Max line-up.
This news comes mere months before the South African launch of the seventh-generation Isuzu D-Max – which is expected to arrive in local showrooms in the second quarter of 2022.
Both the sixth and seventh-generation bakkies will be manufactured at the automaker’s plant in Gqeberha.
“Our strategy is to support Isuzu’s objectives by retaining Gen 6 models which have performed very well in the workhorse segment of the market,” said senior VP of technical operations, Dominic Rimmer.
“In addition to boosting our fleet business, we intend to increase LCV exports into key left and right-hand drive markets within the rest of Africa.”
The sixth-generation D-Max, which will be referred to as the Gen 6 from now on, will be offered in five specifications in South Africa.
Drivetrain
The Gen 6 will continue to use two of Isuzu’s diesel engines, the 2.5-litre LEED and 2.5-litre High Output (HO), both sitting on a rear-wheel-drive platform.
The 2.5 LEED delivers 58kW and 176Nm, with a combined fuel consumption of 7.9l/100km for its five-speed manual transmission.
The HO unit produces 100kW and 320Nm.
Its fuel consumption is 7.6l/100km for the five-speed manual, and 8.1l/100 km for the five-speed auto.
