Mitsubishi South Africa has introduced a new entry-level model for its Triton bakkie range.
The Triton Double Cab GL sells for R479,995 – a significant R115,000 lower than the next specification in the line.
The Triton GL is aimed at commercial buyers but offers a decent list of features to also make it attractive for lifestyle purposes.
The introduction of the cheaper bakkie is part of Mitsubishi South Africa’s “consumer-centric” approach which will see an “extremely compelling product offensive in 2022 where we look to enhance not only the Triton line-up, but also our entire model range,” said the manufacturer.
GL Equipment
The new entry-level Mitsubishi Triton is equipped with automatic airconditioning, a touchscreen radio/CD player, keyless entry, central locking, front fog lamps, ABS, and two airbags.
An upgraded infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is available at an additional cost.
Powering the bakkie is a 2.4-litre, turbo-diesel engine generating 100kW and 324Nm.
Drive is directed to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and 16-inch alloys, while a limited-slip differential is fitted, too.
Combined fuel consumption for this setup is rated at 8.0l/100km with the claimed range on a single tank pinned at 938km.
In addition, the Triton GL supports a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,400kg and offers a load bed measuring 1,520mm in length, 1,470mm in width, and 475mm in depth.
“The single handle on the tailgate enables one-handed operation, while four integrated cargo hooks mean that loads can be secured safely and with ease,” said Mitsubishi.

Each bakkie is sold with a 3-year/100,000km warranty, a 5-year/90,000km service plan, and 5-year/unlimited kilometre roadside assistance.
