Maserati South Africa has told TopAuto the new Grecale SUV is expected to land in local showrooms in the third quarter of 2022.
“The Grecale will slot in below the current Levante range, both in size and price,” said Maserati. The Levante has a starting price of R1,825,000.
As for the all-electric Grecale Folgore, the company didn’t explicitly confirm that it will be available in South Africa.
“Maserati South Africa is very excited about the proposed range of Folgore all-electric Maserati models.”
“The company will follow the global product strategy and hope to make more information available on the local launch of the electric models when this becomes available to them,” it said.
Specifications
The Maserati Grecale is touted as being “a range within the range, the Trident brand’s fullest ever.”
“An extremely wide range of engines is available: conventional internal combustion, hybrid and, in a year’s time, Grecale will also be the first full-electric SUV in Maserati history,” said the automaker.
Starting at the bottom, the Grecale GT is driven by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, mild-hybrid engine delivering 224kW. In Modena spec, the same engine puts out a slightly higher 246kW.
The range-topping Grecale Trofeo gains a 3.0-litre, V6 petrol motor – the same as the MC20 supercar – tuned to generate 395kW and 620Nm.
This model claims 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds and tops out at 285km/h.
Inside the cabin, the Grecale comes with all the high-end features you’d expect from this luxury Italian brand.
Amenities include a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a secondary 8.8-inch central display, a third screen for the rear passengers, a digital instrument cluster, leather upholsteries, carbon fibre trims, and ambient lighting.
A 14-speaker or 21-speaker sound system is also available.
Size-wise, the new Maserati stands 4,846mm long with a height of 1,670mm and a width of 2,163mm – including the wing mirrors.
In comparison, the Levante comes in at 5,005mm, 1,679mm, and 2,158mm.
