Honda has unveiled an all-new SUV which will be available in South Africa – the WR-V.
The Honda WR-V is inspired by the company’s Jazz and BR-V, and comes in at under R300,000 for the Comfort model.
The higher-end Elegance model then retails for just under R320,000.
“The WR-V is an entry-level SUV offering for consumers seeking a seamless combination of style, practicality, and versatility,” said Honda.
It added that the SUV will also include a wide range of safety, convenience, and connectivity features.
Compact SUVs taking off
Honda said the WR-V has been launched in response to a big growth in the “entry SUV” segment in the local market.
Almost 18% of new passenger cars in South Africa fall into this segment and over 50,000 units a year are being sold.
“We aim to grow our footprint in this crucial sector with an expanding range of exciting new SUV models, in which the WR-V will be a key new player,” said Honda.
Looking at the WR-V in more detail, the car features a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which employs Honda’s i-VTEC system.
This produces 66kW and 110Nm of torque, and is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Overall fuel consumption is measured at 6.4l/100km.
Styling and features
The WR-V features a range of elements as standard on both models, including LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, a tailgate that opens all the way to bumper level, seating for five people, airbags, and ABS with EBD.
Storage capacity in the rear is rated at 363 litres – and can expand to 881 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
A multifunction steering wheel with audio controls awaits the driver, along with automatic air-conditioning and touch-panel controls on the centre console.
Additionally, the Comfort model is equipped with a 5-inch LCD audio system featuring Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The Elegance model receives a 7-inch touchscreen display audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, said Honda.
The Elegance then gains a host of extras, which include a reverse parking camera, cruise control, smart keyless entry, and a push button start.

The SUV comes with a 5-year/200,000km warranty and a 4-year/60,000km service plan – with service intervals every 15,000km.
Three years of AA Roadside Assistance service is also included in the purchase price.
