VW South Africa has announced that the new T-Roc will go on sale in the country this July.
The T-Roc will come in two trim lines – the Design and R-Line – with two engines on offer.
The brand’s latest crossover offers an alternative to VW’s other recent entry in the compact-SUV segment – the Taigo – which launched earlier this month.
T-Roc specifications
The T-Roc has seen an overhaul to its exterior with sharpened lines which make for a more striking profile, and LED head and tail-lights are now standard across the range.
Two-tone colour schemes with a white, grey, or black roof are available for visual flair, and the new car is fitted with 17-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, depending on the variant, as well as silver anodized roof rails.
The interior has seen its own makeover, too, with a new digital instrument cluster behind the wheel of each specification alongside a 6.5-inch infotainment system with smartphone mirroring.
The entry-level T-Roc Design then comes with Art Velour fabric seats while the range-toping R-Line’s seats are lined with Nappa leather, and both variants see leather finishes on the door trim and armrests.
Standard equipment for both derivatives further includes a leather multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, adaptive cruise control, two-zone climate control, keyless entry, park assist, and park-distance control.
Additionally, the R-Line is equipped with sports seats for the front passengers and a larger 8-inch infotainment screen.
Other additions to the R-Line consist of a panoramic sunroof, a Beats sound system, a rearview camera, and a driver assistance package.
Engine
The T-Roc will be available with a choice of two powertrains – comprising a 1.4-litre or 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.
The 1.4-litre uses an eight-speed automatic transmission and produces 110kW and 250Nm, making it capable of achieving a top speed of 205km/h and a 0-100km/h time of 8.4 seconds, while fuel consumption is pegged at 6.3l/100km.
Moving to the 2.0-litre, which is coupled with VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. This larger powertrain is puts out a maximum of 140kW and 320Nm and is therefore capable of a higher top speed of 216km/h.
In combination with a seven-speed DSG gearbox, this drivetrain does 7.3l/100km on a combined cycle and offers a faster acceleration time of 7.2 seconds.
Coming soon
The new VW T-Roc will go on sale in South Africa towards the end of next month.
The pricing of the crossover will be revealed closer to the launch date, said VW.
Each model will be sold with a standard 3-year/120,000km warranty and a 5-year/90,000km EasyDrive service plan.
