Following the positive reaction from local customers to the limited-edition Pik Up Karoo Dusk, Mahindra has launched a new, permanent range of South African-exclusive bakkies.
These are the Pik Up Karoo Dusk, Karoo Dawn, and Karoo Storm.
Mahindra said the Karoo branding for the Pik Up in South Africa has been one of its most popular market-exclusive initiatives, with the majority of double cabs sold in the country bearing the optional Karoo visuals.
These special editions now take it a step further by bringing a huge array of additional model-specific features as standard.
What you get
The new Karoo Dusk, Dawn, and Storm are based on the range-topping Pik Up S11, tuned to overcome whatever obstacles you may throw at them.
Buying one of these hardcore off-roaders gets you the following:
- Rear sports bar
- All-terrain tyres
- Rear overfenders
- Off-road suspension
- Rubberised load bins
- Rugged 16-inch alloy wheels
- Roller shutter/tonneau cover
- High-strength steel “Bundu Gear” front and rear bumpers
In the Dawn, a roof rack is also installed, whereas the Storm gets a full leather interior.
A 9-inch infotainment system is then fitted inside the cabin providing onboard navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and this is accompanied by automatic airconditioning, light-sensing headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry, cruise control, and a reverse camera.
As with the bakkie they are based upon, the new special-edition Mahindras are offered in 4×4 guise and are powered by a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel motor connected to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The powertrain develops 103kW and 320Nm, uses fuel at an average rate of 7.9l/100km, and lets the Mahindras carry up to 995kg in the back whilst towing a maximum of 2,500kg.
Thanks to the new bumpers a large approach angle of 34 degrees, breakover angle of 18 degrees, and exit angle of 15 degrees, in combination with a ground clearance of 210mm and low-range gears, further allows the built-up bakkies to boast off-road credentials on par with the best.
