The new Hyundai Creta has been revealed and is going on sale in South Africa soon from a starting price of R409,900.
Three models can be had encompassing two specification grades, two transmissions, and one engine option.
Standard equipment
The entry-level option in the new Creta line-up is called the Premium, which brings automatic headlamp activation, keyless entry, a multifunction steering wheel, electric mirror adjustment, a 3.5-inch multi-information driver’s display, cruise control, two front airbags, a rear-view camera, and rear-facing parking sensors.
Each new Creta also comes with a centrally-mounted touchscreen infotainment system with voice recognition and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
On the outside, the Premium then wears a black and silver grille and 17-inch alloys, while brighter LED taillamps replace the halogen bulbs of old.
Upgrading to the Creta Executive sees a host of additional niceties installed, perhaps the most welcome being an artificial leather upholstery.
Moreover, the range-topping crossover offers its buyers LED headlamps with daytime running lights, front fog lights, a wireless charger, as well as additional curtain airbags.
In terms of styling, this model boasts a chrome-coated front end, silver roof rails, and model-specific wheels also measuring 17 inches in diameter.
Performance
The new Creta range is driven by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine sending 84kW and 144Nm to the front axle.
In the Premium specification, the motor can be partnered with either a six-speed manual or an “intelligent variable transmission” (IVT) that functions as an automatic. In the Executive, however, only the IVT is available.
One notable change in the new generation of Creta, when compared to the old one, is that the new ones can’t be purchased with a tow hook whereas this was fitted as standard to each previous-generation specification.
The newer models also measure 15mm longer and 10mm higher than before, translating into 10mm more ground clearance, but the boot capacity remains pegged at 416 litres.
