The next entry in Porsche’s highly acclaimed 911 series – the GT3 RS – is set to make its international debut less than a month from now on August 17.
Anyone who is interested in seeing the German automaker’s latest high-performance project be unveiled to the world will be able to do so via the digital global premiere on Porsche’s News TV Portal.
The broadcast will begin at 17h00 South African time.
What we know so far
Based on the existing 911 GT3, the GT3 RS will be the new top-of-the-line model in the 911 catalogue in terms of on-track performance.
“The new 911 GT3 RS is even more optimised for track use than its predecessors,” said Andreas Preuniger, Director of Porsche’s GT model line.
The emphasis on this racing-focused personality prompted Porsche to pinpoint development on improving the chassis and aerodynamics of the new model.
Powered by a high-revving, 4.0-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine, the RS will be capable of sending a healthy 372kW to the rear wheels allowing it to tear up the tarmac like never before.
The teaser image shown by the company reveals that the new car will come with a large, swan-neck rear spoiler much like the one found on the standard GT3.
Based on previous sightings of a test car seen at the Nurburgring, which coincides with the official teaser, the RS version has also had its ducts, vents, and front and rear fenders reworked as part of the new aerodynamic philosophy.
While not officially confirmed, reports suggest that the GT3 will be able to sprint from 0-100km/h in roughly three seconds and that it will be able to reach an impressive top speed of 317km/h.
Expected pricing
Porsche has not yet revealed what the pricing of the new sports car will be, but the existing 911 GT3 has a starting South African price of R3,109,000.
Considering the preceding GT3 RS had around a half-million-rand premium over its toned-down sibling when it first launched in 2018, the new model should cost within the ballpark of R4 million, give or take a few optional extras.
The global launch timings and more information on the next-generation GT3 RS is expected be confirmed at the reveal event on 17 August 2022.
