New BMW X7 – Pricing and specifications

The new BMW X7 will land in South Africa in the fourth quarter of 2022, alongside the next-generation 7 Series.

The SUV will be available with two engine options, in five total specifications.

The indicative South African pricing and model line-up for the new X7, as provided by BMW, are as follows:

  • BMW X7 xDrive40d Design Pure Excellence – R1,945,000
  • BMW X7 xDrive40d M Sport – R2,020,000
  • BMW X7 xDrive40d M Sport Pro – R2,060,000
  • BMW X7 M60i xDrive M Performance – R2,285,000
  • BMW X7 M60i xDrive M Sport Pro – R2,307,700

The entry-level xDrive40d is equipped with a 3.0-litre, turbo-diesel motor generating 259kW and 720Nm.

On the top-of-the-line M60i, a 4.4-litre, V8, twin-turbo petrol unit puts down 390kW and 750Nm, allowing the big SUV to accelerate to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds.

This model gets rear-wheel steering, too, while both X7s are equipped with two-axle air suspension.

A 48-volt mild-hybrid system has now also been built into both drivetrains, providing an additional 9kW and 20Nm of boost, and an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with a Sprint function directs drive to all four wheels.

High-end equipment

As BMW’s flagship SUV the new X7 features a raft of high-end equipment as well as the manufacturer’s next-generation cabin design.

This is highlighted by the enormous curved control center spanning the dash, in which the 14.9-inch driver’s display and 12.3-inch infotainment display is integrated.

The instrument panel has also been redesigned with slimmer air vents and an ambient lighting bar, and the three-row cabin can be had with two individual rear seats.

Potential owners can further expect technology and luxury of the highest degree, with each X7 bringing heated front seats, four-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon stereo, a Sport leather steering wheel with paddles, a wireless charger, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, integrated maps, an intelligent personal assistant, BMW ConnectedServices support, an exit warning function, and a reverse camera with reversing assistant.

As a factory first, wheels of up to 23 inches in diameter can also be selected, while 20-inch alloys are standard on the entry-level model, and 21 inches on the M Sport.
