The new Suzuki Vitara Brezza is now available in South Africa.
The local introduction of the Brezza follows the discontinuation of the popular Grand Vitara in 2019.
The Vitara and Vitara Brezza will now share showroom floors – with the Brezza being aimed at the entry-level market.
New design
The Vitara Brezza is classified as a nimble urban runabout, and has been given the dimensions to match.
It has the same wheelbase as the larger Vitara (2,500mm), but is simultaneously shorter, wider, and has higher ground clearance.
The look at the front is assisted by a near-solid chrome grille that spans across the nose, LED daytime running lights, and a signature inverted U-shape in the lower bumper.
Hard-wearing polycarbonate side mouldings can be found above the door sills and wheel arch extensions, along with functional roof rails and colour-coded mirrors.
A “floating roof” design was also achieved through blacking out the A-pillar and C-pillar on all models – while a rear spoiler along with a continuation of the U-shaped grille design at the back concludes the newest styling elements of the Brezza.
New features
Once inside, fabric seats and a 7-inch display on the dashboard will catch your eye first.
This system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while offering Bluetooth and USB inputs, and can be controlled through the multifunction steering wheel.
More notable updates to the line includes:
- Climate control
- Rear parking sensors
- Remote central locking
- All-round electric windows
The better-equipped GLX trim level then receives cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an interior light package with silver highlights, keyless entry and start, and a cooled glove box.
Safety systems
As is now the norm with every Suzuki model, there is no distinction between safety features on different trims.
Active safety systems in the Vitara Brezza consists of ABS with brake-assistance, front airbags, and force-limiting seatbelts.
Several passive safety systems were also added, which include an energy dispersing body structure, an alarm system, and an immobiliser system.
Price and performance
The Vitara Brezza range will be powered by the same 1.5-litre engine that is fitted in the Jimny, Ertiga, and Ciaz – which produces 77kW of power and 138Nm of torque.
An automatic gearbox option is also available, and allows the option of disabling fourth gear if needed.
